Environmental and radiation protection instrumentation - Hand-held instruments for the detection and identification of radioactive isotopes and for the measurement of dose rate (IEC 45B/365/CD:2002)
Abstract
The project specifies requirements for hand-held gamma spectrometers, in particular for the detectors, the electronic multi-channel analysers, the identification software, the radioisotop libraries and the instrument display. It further specifies general characteristics, general test procedures, radiation, electrical, mechanical, safety and environmental characteristics. It also gives guidelines for selecting suitable isotope libraries covering radioactive materials, which have been most frequently detected by border crossings. In the project the fact is recognized, that such instruments are mostly used by persons who are generally not radiation experts.
