Application of cables and flexible cords in power installations - Electrical installation guide - Development of simplified cable selection tables (IEC 64/1157/CD:2000)

Abstract

When designing circuits the cable and protective device have to be selected to meet safety requirements and the requirements of the load. To meet these requirements it is usual, having selected a suitable type of cable, to choose the conductor size which is as small as possible, but which will not achieve a higher temperature than the maximum permitted temperature under normal load and short circuit conditions. Requirements for meetin the thermal limits are given in IEC 60364, Chapters 43 and 52. The project concerned with the development of a simple method for selecting conductor sizes for circuits up to 125 A which meet the requirements of IEC 60364.
