Part 310: Secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes - Performance and durability for Industrial batteries - Lithium ion and sodium ion batteries and modules

Abstract

This document describes the performance test procedures and calculation methods for lithium-ion and sodium-ion industrial batteries, battery packs and battery modules. This document considers the most appropriate metric based on the application for electrical performance between different models/products in the market. It specifies performance test procedures and calculation methods to obtain performance and cycle life values for: - Rated capacity (in Ah) and rated capacity drop (in %); - Power (in W) and power drop (in %); - Internal resistance (in Ω) and increase in internal resistance (in %); - Round-trip efficiency and its drop (in %); - expected lifetime (number of reference cycles). The tests in this document are relevant for industrial batteries, battery packs and battery modules intended for the following applications: - Stationary storage systems - Communication infrastructure - Agricultural activities - Industrial activities NOTE 1 Examples of applications whose batteries fall within the scope of this standard: Stationary applications: Telecommunications, batteries of stationary storage systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), emergency power supplies and similar applications (e.g. portable storage systems operating only in stationary mode). Portable applications: Industrial trucks (including driverless vehicles), golf carts, railway and marine, excluding road vehicles. NOTE 2 These procedures can be used for the type testing of a model/product at the beginning of life ("original" status) and for the testing of individual batteries after a status change ("reused") if the performance values of the "original" battery are known. This document does not apply to "reconditioned" batteries). These tests of the above parameters are carried out at component level outside the device.
