Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components - Fibre optic connector optical interfaces- - Part 3-8: Optical interface, 2,5 mm and 1,25 mm diameter cylindrical 8 degrees angled-APC composite ferrule using titanium as fibre surrounding material, single mode fibre

Abstract

This part of IEC 61755 specifies the limit sizes of an optical connector with a cylindrical composite ferrule with 2.5 mm and 1.25 mm diameter as an optical interface to meet certain requirements for a bevelled polished fibre-to-fibre connection. The composite ferrule has different materials in the end-face contact area and in the contact area between the ferrule and the sleeve. The specified materials for the respective areas are zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) for the ferrule-sleeve contact area and titanium for the end-face contact area. Ferrule materials specified in this standard are suitable for use in categories C, U, E and O, as defined in IEC 61753-1. The standard provides certainty for manufacturers and testing laboratories in the definition of testing and serves as a reference in quality assurance.
