Traveling-wave parametric amplifiers (TWPA) - Parameters and test methods

Abstract

This document specifies the experimental setup, measurement procedure, and analysis of measured data to evaluate the main parameters of interest of traveling-wave parametric amplifiers (TWPAs). Furthermore, minimal requirements for the reporting of the experimental setup for the evaluation of main parameters of interest are specified. This document also gives guidance on how to measure, evaluate and report complex scattering parameters (S-parameters) in the microwave frequency range (approximately 1 GHz to 12 GHz) with a special emphasis on how to realize this in cryostats at low temperature, down to ~10 mK. Based on this foundation, additional guidelines for the measurement and reporting of power gain, saturation power, noise and other key electrical metrics will be put forward.
