Information technology - Automatic identification and data capture techniques

Abstract

Scanning a URL encoded in a QR code using a smartphone is common practice and leads to a specific website (and its respective content). Barcodes with 'classic' content do not lead to an Internet portal, but allow the scanned data elements to be uniquely identified with the help of the ERP systems to which the scanners are connected. The 'ObjectID-URL' meets the need for a combination of both functions and enables both functions, namely the identification of data elements online (or offline), as well as access to relevant information via the Internet, i.e. a website. The document defines the data structure for this and how data elements are embedded in URLs in a clearly identifiable way. To this end, examples of ObjectID URLs are illustrated, which carry data elements with leading data identifiers (DIs) compatible with conventional logistics codes. The committee responsible for this document is NA 043-04-31 AA "Automatic Identification and Data Acquisition Procedures" in the DIN Standards Committee for Information Technology and Applications (NIA).
