Corrosion protection – Overview of Characteristics and Test Methods for Factory and Field Coatings
Abstract
The technical specification serves as an overview of the test methods for certain product characteristics of coating and field coating systems for pipelines. Due to the different product groups of coatings with their specific characteristics, both the requirements and the respective tests vary in certain points. The aim is to identify parts of the respective test that are independent of the coatings, to standardize the respective tests and to describe them in such a way that they are clearly comprehensible, feasible and comparable for the user. In the context of European and international standardization, it has become apparent that the tests for one and the same characteristic are listed with deviations in the annexes of the respective product standards, although there is usually no technically comprehensible explanation for this. Until now, users have been faced with the challenge of having to change their test setup and test procedure from case to case. On the one hand, this causes uncertainty and higher costs for the test, and on the other hand, the comparability of the test results is limited or non-existent, depending on which standard is applied. One of the purposes of this document is to represent and introduce a uniform position in the revision or development of standards containing these tests within the framework of European and international standardization. The focus here is on the tests for quality assessment of the finished product (type examination). However, tests for quality control on the construction site or in or during the production process are not excluded.
