Carbon sequestration through agroforestry systems – Requirements for quantification and valuation of agroforestry systems for climate protection through carbon removal from trees and from agroforestry products

Abstract

This topic has been submitted as a request for the development of a DIN SPEC according to the PAS procedure. DIN SPECs are developed within DIN-SPEC-consortiums set up on a temporary basis. In the attached business plan you will find detailed information on the planned project as well as concrete time limits for commenting on the business plan (four-week commentary period) and for registering for the kick-off. This document will be developed and approved by the authors named in the business plan. This document specifies requirements for the quantification and valuation of carbon removal by woody plants in agroforestry systems and long-term carbon sequestration in products from agroforestry systems. The document defines the framework to ensure reliability, comparability and transparency in the carbon accounting of the woody component of agroforestry systems and the long-lived products resulting from these systems. This document is aimed at agricultural enterprises, companies, institutes and other actors in the field of carbon management who wish to access a standardized and transparent system for quantifying and evaluating carbon sequestration by agroforestry systems.
