Lubricants and related materials - Classification of lubricants - Part 3: Lubricating oils which are mainly used in the automotive sector

Abstract

This document defines the abbreviated designation of lubricating oils that are mainly used in the automotive sector. The classification of the individual lubricant groups and the basic structure of the abbreviated designation for lubricating oils from the automotive sector in up to three designation blocks (A, B, C) is defined in DIN 51502-1. This document also specifies the labeling of packaging, containers, lubricant containers, lubrication devices, lubrication points and the information in product data sheets. The general international labeling of lubricants is defined in DIN ISO 6743-99. The specific international labeling of lubricating oils used primarily in the automotive sector is defined in ISO 6743-15.
