Methods for predicting the frictional torque of rolling bearings

Abstract

This document presents various methods based on simple to advanced models that are currently used in rolling bearing technology to estimate the frictional torque of rolling bearings. The influencing variables and effects considered in these methods, as well as the application limits, are discussed to enable interpretation of the results. This document also deals with examples of typical procedures for measuring the frictional torque of rolling bearings in order to illustrate the possibilities and limitations of the individual test concepts. This document deals with the prediction of the frictional torque of individual rolling bearings, the calculation of frictional losses of an entire system, such as an automotive transmission, is not covered in this document.
