Tolerances and test methods for heat-treated parts

Abstract

This document provides guidance for the specification of manufacturing tolerances and test methods for the testing of heat-treated components. The specified manufacturing tolerance values are not mandatory, but represent reasonable testable tolerance bands that can be considered testable, taking into account the expected measurement uncertainty budget. The drawing specifications of the tolerances should be made in accordance with ISO 15787. Note - the current ISO 15787 allows different notations of a tolerance specification, it is recommended to use only the notation with plus tolerances (example 60+6 HRC). This is in line with the notation of the older editions of ISO 15787 and is common practice in heat treatment.
