Requirements for planning and safety in the multifunctional high-tech working environment surgical theatre/interventional suite

Abstract

This document specifies the necessary requirements for the daily use of the combined application of established and, in some cases, new technologies in the surgical theatre. It forms the basis for greater safety in the areas of assessment, consultation, planning and construction of multifunctional surgical theatres. It supports the safe and efficient operation of multifunctional surgical theatres and the qualification of the professional groups involved. In addition, standard processes, roles and responsibilities are defined in order to minimize the probability of hazardous situations occurring before, during and after an surgery and to significantly increase patient safety and the safety and health of those involved in the surgical theatre. This document does not specify any requirements for medical devices themselves. It is about the overall system, the interaction and the processes/workflows and qualifications.
