Sustainability of financial investments - Part 2: Sustainability scoring for financial products – A standardized approach for the classification of financial products based on sustainability characteristics

Abstract

This document is aimed in particular at financial market participants and financial advisors, i.e. financial investment and insurance brokers, credit institutions, insurance companies and capital management companies. It defines a process for the classification and simplified presentation of financial and insurance investment products with regard to their sustainability characteristics. To this end, this document establishes a system that specifies a sustainability scoring of financial products on a sustainability scale based on existing criteria. The sustainability scoring facilitates the selection of suitable products with regard to meeting the sustainability preferences of investors. It corresponds to the sustainability preference query in accordance with DIN 77236-1. This document is based on current regulatory requirements. It does not claim to establish a separate definition of sustainability. The sustainability scoring is purely data-based and provides an initial orientation.
