Electric signalling systems for railways

Abstract

This prestandard applies for functional safety during the installation and operation of electrical railway signalling installations and their subsystems which are not covered by DIN EN 50129 (VDE 0831-129):2019-06. This includes the following subsystems or components: Relay technology, signals, point drives, barrier drives, power supplies, non-electronic track vacancy detection, in each case with their approved technical characteristics. This prestandard is also to be applied for requirements on electrical railway signalling installations which are not specified by European standards or - insofar as these standards contain regulations - for their concretisation. This includes, among others, protective measures, determination of influencing and test voltages and cable installations. This prestandard is not applicable to - Systems/subsystems/devices covered by DIN EN 50129 (VDE 0831 129):2019-06 and for requirements for these systems specified in the EN series; - Sequencing systems and signalling devices for simple operating conditions, insofar as they are implemented using the technologies referred to in paragraph 1; - on-board equipment; - Magnetic railways. For electrical railway signalling systems in underground mining operations, DIN EN 50628 (VDE 0118-10):2016-11 also applies.
