Safety evaluations of flammable refrigerants in air-conditioning systems of rail vehicles
Abstract
This technically supported process standard was developed to enable the safe use of flammable refrigerants in rail air conditioners and thus to create the prerequisite for guaranteeing the product liability of the manufacturer of rail air conditioners with flammable refrigerants. This thus simultaneously serves to provide evidence of safety during the service life. This standard describes procedures for recording and evaluating hazards due to leaks in refrigeration circuits with flammable refrigerants, which can occur during operational use, due to incorrect handling, technical defect, or accidental occurrence. Life cycle risk assessment with anticipated modes of operation is captured by OMRA (Operational Mode Risk Assessment) using methods such as HAZOP (Hazard and Operational Capability Analysis), FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis) or FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) or a combination of these methods. Based on this, this standard defines specific and targeted procedures and principles for risk identification on BKS and for risk management as well as the associated validation steps and procedures.
