Transformers and inductors - Near Magnetic and Electric Fields Characterization
Abstract
This document describes the methods used to characterize and used to classify the near magnetic field and near electric field performance of power magnetic components that are used in ac-dc and dc-dc power converter that conduct ac current or ac current superimposed on dc current. This standard differentiates the type of equipment used only to detect dc fields from equipment used to detect. ac fields. This standard also identifies the test conditions that need to be defined to categorize the near magnetic field and electric field performance. These conditions include the following: position and distance of detection probe from the component under test, orientation of detection probe relative to the component under test and excitation and loading conditions of the component under test based on operating voltages, currents, waveforms, frequency, etc., consistent with target applications. This document is applicable to leaded and surface mount inductors with dimensions according to IEC 62025-1 and generally with rated current less than 125 A, although inductors with rated current greater than 125 A are available that fall within the dimension restrictions of this document (no larger than a 625 mm2 footprint). These inductors are typically used in DC-to-DC converters built on PCBs, for electronic and telecommunication equipment, and small size switching power supply Units.
