Sound insulation in buildings - Part 5: Increased requirements

Abstract

Compared to DIN 4109-1, this standard specifies increased requirements for the sound insulation of building components of rooms requiring protection and for the permissible sound levels in rooms requiring protection in the following buildings: - Residential buildings and buildings with living and working areas; - Hotels and lodging houses; - hospitals and sanatoriums. The specifications listed below are designed in such a way that they lead to perceptibly better sound insulation in terms of both airborne and impact noise protection and protection against noise from building services equipment compared with the requirements of DIN 4109 1. If the increased requirements in the sense of this standard are agreed, they must be taken into account during the planning of the building. During execution, close coordination of the trades involved must be ensured. If increased requirements are desired, this will be taken into account in individual cases during planning. This document is not to be used - for detached single-family houses; - for the protection of recreation rooms in which, as a result of their use, noise with LAF,95 ≥ 40 dB is almost constantly present; - for protection against aircraft noise, insofar as the noise protection measures are regulated by the "Law for Protection against Aircraft Noise"; - for protection against low-frequency noise in accordance with DIN 45680 (as a rule, if the difference LCF - LAF is > 20 dB); - for noise protection in the user's own living and working area, with the exception of protection against noise from ventilation and air-conditioning systems which cannot be influenced by the user; NOTE In special cases, due to different use and sound sources in individual rooms, different working and rest times of individual occupants or due to other increased need for protection, sound insulation measures in the own living and working area may also be desired, which can be agreed in addition to this standard. - for protection against impact sound transmission and noise from building services equipment in kitchens, provided these are not intended as recreation rooms (eat-in kitchens), as well as in corridors, bathrooms, toilet rooms and adjoining rooms; - for protection against airborne sound transmission in kitchens, corridors, bathrooms, toilet rooms and ancillary rooms, insofar as these are not intended as recreation rooms, because a reduction in the acoustic quality of the sound-transmitting partitioning components (e.g. by means of shafts or ducts or reduced component thicknesses) is not permissible in the area of these rooms compared to the design-relevant room; - for the sound insulation of rooms requiring protection against structurally connected, particularly noisy rooms (see DIN 4109-1:1234-56, Table 8); - for sound insulation in office buildings, schools and training centers.
