Sound insulation in buildings - Part 1: Minimum requirements

Abstract

This standard specifies requirements for the sound insulation of building components of rooms requiring protection and for the permissible sound levels in rooms requiring protection in residential and non-residential buildings to achieve the described sound insulation objectives. The requirements of this standard apply to the protection - against noise from other rooms (e.g. neighboring dwellings), which arises during their intended use, - against noise from technical building equipment systems as well as from commercial and industrial operations present in the same building or in buildings structurally connected to it, - against external noise, e.g. traffic noise and noise from commercial and industrial operations that are not structurally connected to the rooms requiring protection and form the basis for required building constructions for new buildings as well as for structural alterations to existing buildings. The requirements of this standard do not apply - for the protection of recreation rooms in which, as a result of their use, noise with LAF,95 ≥ 40 dB is almost constantly present, - against aircraft noise, insofar as the noise protection measures are regulated by the FluLärmG (Law for Protection against Aircraft Noise), - against low-frequency noise according to DIN 45680 (as a rule, if the difference LCF - LAF is > 20 dB), - for noise protection in the user's own living and working area, with the exception of protection against noise from ventilation systems that cannot be influenced by the user, - for protection against impact sound transmission and noise from building services equipment in kitchens, provided these are not intended as recreation rooms (residential kitchens), as well as in corridors, bathrooms, toilet rooms and adjoining rooms, - for protection against airborne sound transmission in kitchens, corridors, bathrooms, toilet rooms and adjoining rooms, provided these are not intended as recreation rooms. However, a reduction in the acoustic quality of the sound-transmitting partitioning components (e.g. by means of shafts or ducts or reduced component thicknesses) in the area of these rooms compared to the design-relevant room is not permitted.
