Sanitary tapware - Measurement of functional performance of taps and showers; German version FprEN 18021:2024

Abstract

This European Standard specifies: • definitions • installation instructions • requirements for test set-ups • definitions for standard use cases and related actions for test parameters • water flow rate, energy consumption per time unit • rinsing performance or comfort • water and energy efficiency • the dimensional, leaktightness, pressure resistance, hydraulic performance, mechanical strength, endurance and acoustic characteristics with which taps, showers and shower systems shall comply. Furthermore, it specifies following product specific parameters, e. g. • performance in function of the change of pressure; • performance of water break; • performance of cold start; • performance of temperature break; • difference between flow rate at highest and lowest water pressure; • performance of thermostatic valve; • performance of electronic tap; • measurement of spreading area; • measurement of spray force, where appropriate; • performance of flow regulators; • test methods in compliance with currently existing product standards for appliances of supply type 1 to verify the characteristics. The tests described in this European Standard are type tests (laboratory tests) and not quality control tests carried out during manufacture. This European Standard applies to PN 10 taps, for use with wash basins, kitchen and bidets. This European Standard does not apply to shower taps for its own, since these products need to be used in combination with a shower outlet. This European Standard does not apply to taps for filling bathtubs, or the tub filling function of combined taps since standard use cases require high flow rates and the water volume depends on the tub. This European Standard applies to overhead and hand showers for connection downstream of the shut-off device of the sanitary appliance. This European Standard applies to PN 10 shower systems, installed in rooms used for bodily hygiene (cloakrooms, bathrooms, etc.).
