Failure Mode and Effects analysis (FMEA) (IEC 56/1579/CD:2014)

Abstract

This International Standard describes how to perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). FMEA aims to establish how items or processes might fail to function so that appropriate action can be formulated to mitigate potential failures. FMEA provides a systematic method for identifying all modes of failure, together with their causes and effects on the hardware, software or process, both locally and globally. The term "item" here means hardware, software, human action and the interactions among them.
