Fire hazard testing - Part 8-2: Heat release - Summary and relevance of test methods (IEC 60695-8-2:2016); German version EN 60695-8-2:2017
Prüfungen zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr - Teil 8-2: Wärmefreisetzung - Zusammenfassung und Anwendbarkeit von Prüfverfahren (IEC 60695-8-2:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN 60695-8-2:2017
Overview
Measuring heat release makes a very important contribution to determining the risk of fire and is therefore also used in engineering calculations for fire safety. The risk of fire increases with heat release, which may cause the flames to spread. The release of thermal energy during a fire is referred to as the heat release rate. Part 8-2 of DIN EN 60695 provides a (comprehensive, but not complete) compilation of relevant methods with regard to heat release tests for electrotechnical products or their materials. This standard has the status of a basic safety standard in accordance with IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. For this reason, it will no longer be published internationally as a Technical Specification. The intended transition to the status of an International Standard requires certain changes that are mandatory for normative documents. Text related to IEC/TS 60695-8-3 has also been deleted, as Part 8-3 is to be withdrawn. This basic safety standard is aimed at technical committees for implementation in standards. Application-specific integration is then the responsibility of the respective technical committee. The responsible committee is DKE/K 133 "Prüfverfahren und Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektronischen Produkten und Isolierstoffen" ("Fire hazard testing of electronic products and insulating material") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
