Overview

This standard specifies maximum values for the release of lead and cadmium during cold extraction in accordance with DIN EN 1388-1 and DIN EN 1388-2 for consumer goods made of ceramic material, glass and glass-ceramic. This standard applies to tableware and kitchen utensils, cooking and baking utensils, packaging containers and storage containers as well as to other consumer goods made of ceramic material, glass and glass-ceramic which are intended to come into contact with food. It applies to decorative objects if contact with food cannot be excluded during their foreseeable use. This standard does not apply to doll's kitchenware. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-08-94 AA "Bedarfsgegenstände aus Glas oder Keramik in Kontakt mit Lebensmitteln - Prüfung der Ionenabgabe" ("Glass ware and ceramic ware in contact with food, testing of metal release" at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
