Fire hazard testing - Part 8-1: Heat release - General guidance (IEC 60695-8-1:2016); German version EN 60695-8-1:2017
Prüfungen zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr - Teil 8-1: Wärmefreisetzung - Allgemeiner Leitfaden (IEC 60695-8-1:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN 60695-8-1:2017
Overview
When designing an electrotechnical product, the risk of fire as well as the potential hazards associated with fires shall be taken into account and minimized as far as possible by dimensioning components, designing the circuitry and selecting materials. The basic principle is to prevent any ignition or, if necessary, to contain the spread of fire. Part 8-1 of the IEC 60695 series provides guidelines for measuring and evaluating the heat release of electrotechnical products and the materials from which they are made. This standard has the status of a basic safety standard in accordance with IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51 and is therefore no longer to be published internationally as a Technical Specification. The intended transition to the status of an International Standard requires certain changes that are mandatory for normative documents. The responsible committee is DKE/K 133 "Prüfverfahren und Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektronischen Produkten und Isolierstoffen" ("Fire hazard testing of electronic products and insulating material") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
