DIN EN 13284-1
Stationary source emissions - Determination of low range mass concentration of dust - Part 1: Manual gravimetric method; German version EN 13284-1:2017

Title (German)

Emissionen aus stationären Quellen - Ermittlung der Staubmassenkonzentration bei geringen Staubkonzentrationen - Teil 1: Manuelles gravimetrisches Verfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 13284-1:2017

Overview

This European Standard specifies the standard reference method (SRM) for the measurement of low dust concentration in ducted gaseous streams in the concentrations below 50 mg/m3 at standard conditions. This method is primarily developed and validated for gaseous streams emitted by waste incinerators. More generally, it can be applied to gases emitted from other stationary sources, and to higher concentrations. If the gases contain unstable, reactive or semi-volatile substances, the measurement depends on the sampling and filter treatment conditions. This method has been validated in field tests with special emphasis to dust concentrations around 5 mg/m3. The results of the field tests are presented in Annex A. The revised version of EN 13284-1:2002 contains corrections and adaptations to more recent standards. These include in particular - terms and definitions have been aligned with EN 15259. - a clause with symbols and abbreviations has been added. The following clauses have been renumbered accordingly. - requirements for the limit of quantification of the method and for the expanded uncertainty of the measurement results have been added. - the entire content has been adapted to EN 15259. Paragraphs covered by EN 15259 have been deleted and replaced by references to EN 15259. - the specific requirements for the planning of dust measurements have been combined with the general requirements of EN 15259. - requirements have been added that the devices for point velocity measurement for setting isokinetic conditions shall comply with the requirements of EN ISO 16911-1. - if the dust concentration is specified for dry exhaust gas and standard conditions and/or the concentrations are to be related to a reference oxygen content, the necessary measuring equipment shall comply with the requirements of the applicable standards. - an overview of filter materials and their advantages and limits of use has been added. - requirements for devices for measuring the gas volume have been added. - the requirements for the quality of purified water and acetone have been increased. - that the filters may also be dried at the filtration temperature used for sampling has been added. - the handling of the filters is described in more detail. - the necessary preliminary tests are described in more detail. - the performance of the leak test is described in more detail. - the description of sampling has been improved on the basis of experience gained since the publication of the first edition of the standard. - the procedure for determining the field blank value and the requirement for the maximum permissible value have been added. - the general components of the measurement report have been deleted and replaced by a reference to EN 15259. - the original Annexes A, B, C and D have been deleted as they are covered by EN 15259. - the process parameters determined in field tests have been moved from the main part to Annex A. - a new annex on the influence of the isokinetic ratio on the representativeness of the collected particles has been added. - an example of a tested gooseneck probe has been added. - an example for determining the uncertainty of the measured values obtained with the method has been added. This European Standard is intended in particular for testing laboratories using standard reference methods within the scope of periodic measurements, manufacturers of appropriate measuring equipment, plant operators and regulatory authorities. This European Standard deals in particular with environmental protection and quality control aspects of emission monitoring. Committee NA 134-04-01-09 UA "Staubmessung in strömenden Gasen" ("Dust measurement in flowing gases") at DIN is responsible for this standard.
