Fire hazard testing - Part 1-20: Guidance for assessing the fire hazard of electrotechnical products - Ignitability - General guidance (IEC 60695-1-20:2016); German version EN 60695-1-20:2016
Prüfungen zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr - Teil 1-20: Anleitung zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektrotechnischen Erzeugnissen - Entzündbarkeit - Allgemeiner Leitfaden (IEC 60695-1-20:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN 60695-1-20:2016
Overview
When designing an electrotechnical product, the risk of fire as well as the potential hazards associated with fires shall be taken into account and minimized as far as possible by dimensioning components, designing the circuitry and selecting materials. The basic principle is to prevent any ignition or, if necessary, to contain the spread of fire. Part 1-20 of the IEC 60695 series provides an overview and guidance on flammability and its relevance to the fire hazard of electrical products and the materials from which they are made. It also provides guidance on the selection of appropriate test methods. The revised edition presented here updates requirements in view of its new status as a type A standard. References to other standards (ISO 5660-1 in particular) are also brought up to date, and definitions of "pyrolysis" and "short circuit" are added. This type A standard is intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. Application-specific integration of this type A standard is the responsibility of the respective technical committee. The responsible committee is DKE/K 133 "Prüfverfahren und Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektronischen Produkten und Isolierstoffen" ("Fire hazard testing of electronic products and insulating material") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
