DIN 5881-2
Petroleum industry - Wire ropes and rope reeving - Part 2: Rope reeving
Erdölindustrie - Drahtseile und Seiltriebe - Teil 2: Seiltriebe
Overview
This document specifies the characteristics of rope drives used in the petroleum industry. The specifications for rope drives in ISO 4309 do not apply to the petroleum industry because the nature of oilfield operation differs from normal crane operation. This standard has been created for the special conditions of the oil industry, for example, load changes, velocity changes, shock loads. The aim of the design of rope drives is to obtain sufficient service life of the rope. The service life (number of bending cycles until discard) depends on the operating mode of the rope drive, the stress in the rope and the wire material. The responsible committee for German collaboration is Working Group NA 109-00-01-04 AK "Bohr- und Fördereinrichtungen - Spiegelausschuss zu ISO/TC 67/SC 4" ("Drilling and production equipment - mirror committee to ISO/TC 67/SC 4)") at DIN Standards Committee Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries (NÖG).
