DIN 55957
Binders for paints and varnishes - Methylation and silylation of fatty acids and analysis by gas chromatography
Bindemittel für Beschichtungsstoffe - Methylierung und Silylierung von Fettsäuren und gaschromatographische Analyse
Overview
This standard specifies a method for the gas chromatographic separation and determination of fatty acids in oils via the mixtures of fatty acid methyl esters or silyl esters prepared from them. In particular, the fatty acids are to be separated according to the number of their carbon atoms (preferably 14 to 18) and in each case according to the number of double bonds (up to 3). Dienes with conjugated double bonds can also be determined, as they are formed by dehydration of ricinoleic acid or by isomerization of isolated dienes. This standard applies to the determination of individual fatty acids or fatty acid groups within the scope of technical delivery conditions in which corresponding requirements are specified. It may also be applied to determine the composition of mixtures of fatty acids isolated from alkyd resins. Working Committee NA 002-00-02 AA "Lackrohstoffe" ("Raw materials for paints and varnishes") at DIN Standards Committee Coatings and Coating Materials (NAB) is responsible for this document.
