Overview
The purpose of an Active Infrared Beam Detector (AIBD) is to detect an intruder by interrupting one or more infrared beams and to provide the necessary range of signals or messages to be used by the rest of the intrusion detection system. The AIBD consists of a transmitter that emits infrared radiation and a receiver that detects the interruption of the received radiation. The infrared radiation emitted by the transmitter can reach the receiver via a reflector. This Technical Specification is applicable to Active Infrared Beam Detectors (AIBDs) installed inside buildings and used as part of intrusion alarm systems. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 713.1 "Gefahrenmelde- und Überwachungsanlagen" ("Alarm and surveillance systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
