DIN EN 10205
Cold reduced tinmill products - Blackplate; German version EN 10205:2016
Kaltgewalzte Verpackungsblecherzeugnisse - Feinstblech; Deutsche Fassung EN 10205:2016
Overview
Blackplate is a non-alloy steel that is rolled out in the form of strip to thicknesses of typically 0,10 to 0,60 mm. The strip is mainly used to produce tinplate (electrolytically tinned blackplate) and electrolytic chromium/chromium oxide coated steel. These sheets are used for the production of packaging, which is why they are also referred to as packaging steel. The main areas of application for packaging steel are in the following four areas: tin cans for food and pet food, packaging for chemical-technical products and spray cans for aerosols, closures in the form of lids and crown caps as well as beverage cans. This standard specifies the technical delivery conditions for blackplate. Compared with the 1992 edition, the standard has been completely revised and the hardness test has been replaced by the tensile test as the reference test for mechanical properties. A comparable standard, also relating to blackplate, is ISO 11951 entitled "Cold-reduced blackplate in coil form for the production of tinplate or electrolytic chromium/chromium oxide-coated steel". The responsible committee is NA 021-00-02 AA "Verpackungsblech" ("Tinplate and blackplate") at DIN.
