Secondary cells and batteries for renewable energy storage - General requirements and methods of test - Part 2: On-grid applications (IEC 61427-2:2015); German version EN 61427-2:2015
Wiederaufladbare Zellen und Batterien für die Speicherung erneuerbarer Energien - Allgemeine Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren - Teil 2: Netzintegrierte Anwendungen (IEC 61427-2:2015); Deutsche Fassung EN 61427-2:2015
Overview
Grid-connected storage systems serve as energy sources and sinks in an electricity grid and can stabilize it. This standard has resulted from the revision of the previous DIN EN 61427:2006-03 and now applies exclusively to grid-connected applications, while a Part 1 has been prepared for off-grid applications. This Part 2 relates to rechargeable batteries for the storage of electrical energy in grid-connected applications and contains typical test procedures for demonstrating the electrical performance and durability of the battery. It applies to all battery chemistries, including lithium-based systems. This standard does not define requirements for a battery system, but provides test procedures to compare storage systems with each other. Thus, the objective of this part of IEC 61427 is to provide the prospective system operator with advice and guidance on determining and selecting suitable rechargeable batteries for grid-connected electrical storage (EES) systems. The associated power converters and interface devices to connect the storage system to the power grid are not part of this standard. However, an informal listing of hazards associated with batteries and battery systems is included in this part of IEC 61427. This listing should assist in evaluating the potential behavior of the battery under abnormal and abusive operating conditions. The responsible committee is DKE/K 371 "Akkumulatoren" ("Secondary cells and batteries") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
