Re-sintering test for UO₂, (U,Gd)O₂ and (U,Pu)O₂ pellets (ISO 15646:2014); German version EN ISO 15646:2016
Nachsintertest für UO₂- , (U,Gd)O₂- und (U,Pu)O₂-Pellets (ISO 15646:2014); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 15646:2016
Overview
DIN EN ISO 15646 describes a procedure for measuring the densification of UO2, (U,Gd)O2, and (U,Pu)O2 pellets, achieved by heat treatment under defined conditions. The densification depends on structural parameters such as pore size, spatial pore distribution, grain sizes, and in the case of (U,Gd)O2 and (U,Pu)O2, the oxide phase structure. The thermal re-sintering test can be used to determine the behavior of the pellets at high temperature. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 062-07 FBR "Fachbereichsbeirat Kerntechnik und Strahlenschutz" ("Board of the Technical Department Nuclear technology and radiation protection") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
