DIN EN 16738
Emission safety of combustible air fresheners - Test methods; German version EN 16738:2015
Emissionssicherheit brennbarer Lufterfrischer - Testverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 16738:2015
Overview
Air fresheners include all commercially available products designed to improve the odour quality of the air. Air fresheners are used to solve problems with unpleasant odours in indoor air. In addition, the fragrances used in air fresheners help maintain pleasant indoor odours. Air fresheners thus contribute to the general feeling of well-being. The use of air fresheners in the home environment is constantly increasing and the trade value in Europe is estimated at EUR 2,400,000,000 per year. The requirements for the chemical properties of air fresheners are regulated by EU regulations such as REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD). However, there are no validated test methods for assessing the emissions of potentially harmful chemicals resulting from the use of combustible air fresheners. This European standard describes a test chamber method for determining emissions from the use of combustible air fresheners. It specifies the measurement methods for determining the following substances: VOCs, formaldehyde, SO<(Index)2, NOx and CO. The measurement methods make it possible to determine further substances.
