Overview
This European Standard regulates the design of diaphragm walls with a supporting function and as sealing diaphragm walls as well as the aspects to be taken into account when preparing the shop drawings. Diaphragm walls can be permanent or temporary structures. The following types of construction are dealt with: 1) Diaphragm walls with a supporting function: these are usually constructed to support the side walls of an excavation pit. They include: in-situ concrete diaphragm walls, precast diaphragm walls, reinforced single-phase diaphragm walls. 2) Sealed diaphragm walls: these are usually constructed to prevent the movement of clean or contaminated groundwater or other liquids in the ground. They include: single-phase diaphragm walls, possibly with membranes or sheet piling, plastic concrete walls. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-05-13 AA "Schlitzwände (SpA zu CEN/TC 288)" ("Diaphragm walls (Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 288)") at DIN Standards Committee Building and Civil Engineering (NABau).
