Overview

This pre-standard applies to safety-relevant electric, electronic and programmable electronic systems (E/E/PES, including subsystems and devices) for electric signalling applications for railways. The pre-standard specifies a communication protocol ensuring safe data transmission in accordance with DIN EN 50159 (VDE 0831-159). This pre-standard describes the use of a repetitive mechanism and the coordinated use of multiple transmission paths as measures for enhancing availability. This pre-standard does not give implementation provisions but a specification describing transmission frame formats, protocol-related state transitions and the abstract functions to be applied. It explicitly does not state provisions regarding concrete interfaces for the application and the underlying transport layer, since those depend on the implementation. Currently, no regional or International Standards apply to the scope of the pre-standard. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 351.3 "Bahn-Signalanlagen" ("Signalling systems for railways") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
