Overview

For functional assignment on humans and machines (automated functions), the functions and partial functions determined in the task analysis shall be characterized and combined in a neat manner. Afterwards they are distributed over the human/operator and control technology by using classification criteria (for example, permitted reaction time, complexity of the task). Ultimately, this leads to the displays and operating options to be provided in control rooms and control stations as well as the information supporting the operator. For function analysis, a hierarchical structure of the functions and partial functions is recommended, based on the basic objectives of the system. This is effected without assignment to systems automated or operated by humans. Time requirements result from the interaction of functions during expected events and operating conditions. The principles of the conception and design of control-rooms of nuclear power plants used in Germany are laid down in KTA 3904 more detailed requirements internationally in DIN EN 60964 (VDE 0491-5-1):2010-08. The standard DIN EN 61839 (VDE 0491-5) deals with the aspects of the functional analysis and the assignment of functions in detail and, as such, it can be recongnized as a supplement to KTA 3904 and to DIN EN 60964 (VDE 0491-5-1). It is, in principle, also applicable to backfits and modernization of existing control-rooms. The standard can also be analoguously applied to the backfit and of existing control rooms as well as control rooms of other types of systems. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 967.1 "Elektro- und Leittechnik für kerntechnische Anlagen" ("Instrumentation and control of nuclear facilities") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
