VG 85647
Screw propellers for ships - Repair of propellers, requirements and tests; Text in German and English

Title (German)

Vortriebsanlagen für Schiffe - Instandsetzung von Propellern, Anforderungen und Prüfungen; Text Deutsch und Englisch

Overview

VG 85647 includes requirements and test methods for the repair of propellers. In general, both propellers and propeller blades are repairable. Prerequisite for the repair of propellers is a survey on vessels. Here, a decision is required as to whether it is necessary to take the propeller off for repair. A survey report shall be drawn up including the form. Additionally, the actual dimensions of the propeller shall be determined using a measurement method complying with the constructions requirements. As a rule, the required measurements depend on the type of damage that has occurred. Cracks and other damages, such as pores, cavitation damage, etcetera, shall be determined by visual inspection or other approved or suitable test methods. One or more official quality assurance representative(s) approved by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) shall be consulted. A damage inspection report shall be drawn up. (For a corresponding form sheet, see Annex A of this standard.) Three repair classes (A to C) apply. In addition, the testing of repaired propellers and special constructions as well as government quality assurance inspections and quality assurance shall be documented. A sample form for the propeller repair procedure in German/English is given in (normative) Annex A. This standard has been prepared by NA 132-02-01 AA "Leistungserzeugung, Vortrieb, Hilfsmaschinen" ("Power generation, Propulsion, Auxiliary engine") of the Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Standards Committee (NSMT) of DIN.
