DIN EN 12547
Centrifuges - Common safety requirements; German version EN 12547:2014
Zentrifugen - Allgemeine Sicherheitsanforderungen; Deutsche Fassung EN 12547:2014
Overview
This European Standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called "presumption of conformity"). This European Standard applies to centrifuges for the separation or change in concentration of mixtures of liquids and solids. It gives requirements to minimize the risks caused by the significant hazards arising during the operation of centrifuges: * mechanical hazards common to all types of centrifuges, * ergonomical hazards; * thermal hazards; * electrical hazards; * noise. The following are excluded from the scope: * centrifuges with a kinetic energy of rotation less than 200 J; * centrifuges for household use; * centrifuges for laboratory use according to EN 61010-2-020; * centrifuges for forming, for example, centrifugal hot metal casting machines. This standard contains the German version of EN 12547:2014 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 313 "Centrifuges - Safety requirements" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 12547/A1:2009-09 as follows: * the scope was made more precise; * the normative references were updated; * the list of hazards was moved to the body of the standard (previously Annex A); * the chapter on mechanical hazards was restructured; * thermal hazards were included; * the text with regard to the integrity of the safety-related parts of the control system was elaborated on, and a practical example for determining the performance level was added in the new Annex D; * the order of the Annexes was changed. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Working Committee NA 060-19-01 AA "Zentrifugen" ("Centrifuges") at Technical Section "Verfahrenstechnik" ("Process engineering") of DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of centrifuges, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations are involved in the preparation of the standard.
