DIN 38407-37
German standard methods for the examination of water, waste water and sludge - Jointly determinable substances (group F) - Part 37: Determination of organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls and chlorobenzene in water - Method using gas chromatography and mass spectrometric detection (GC-MS) after liquid-liquid extraction (F 37)

Title (German)

Deutsche Einheitsverfahren zur Wasser-, Abwasser- und Schlammuntersuchung - Gemeinsam erfassbare Stoffgruppen (Gruppe F) - Teil 37: Bestimmung von Organochlorpestiziden, Polychlorbiphenylen und Chlorbenzolen in Wasser - Verfahren mittels Gaschromatographie und massenspektrometrischer Detektion (GC-MS) nach Flüssig-Flüssig-Extraktion (F 37)

Overview

In the new Verordnung zum Schutz der Oberflächengewässer (Oberflächengewässerverordnung) (Ordinance on the protection of surface waters (Surface Waters Ordinance)) for implementation of in particular Directive 200/60/EC Wasserrahmenrichtlinie (Water Framework Directive) and 2008/105/EC Umweltqualitätsnormen (Environmental Quality Standards Directive), Annex 5 contains a list of liquid-specific pollutants for assessment of the ecological condition and ecological potential and Annex 7, Tables 1 and 2, include other pollutants for assessment of the chemical condition of surface waters. This document specifies a method for determination of selected organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls and chlorobenzene in water after liquid-liquid extraction and using gas chromatography and mass spectrometric detection. The method is applicable to potable, ground, surface and wastewater in mass concentrations usually from 0,005 µg/l. The amount of suspended substances in the sample should not exceed 0,05 µg/l. The limits of quantification are significantly higher for some substances, for example alpha- and beta endosulfan. The applicability of the method to other substances which are not indicated in Table 1 or other types of water is not excluded, it shall be checked on a case-to-case basis, however. This document has been prepared by NA 119-01-03-02-17 AK "SHKW mit GC/MS" ("Low-volatile hydrocarbons with GC/MS") of NA 119-01-03 AA "Wasseruntersuchung" ("Water examination") at the Water Practice Standards Committee (NAW) and has been funded by the Länderfinanzierungsprogramm "Wasser, Boden und Abfall" (federal funding programme "Water, soil and waste").
