Instrument transformers - Part 2: Additional requirements for current transformers (IEC 61869-2:2012); German version EN 61869-2:2012

Title (German)

Messwandler - Teil 2: Zusätzliche Anforderungen für Stromwandler (IEC 61869-2:2012); Deutsche Fassung EN 61869-2:2012

Overview

Within the framework of complete revision and reorganization of the International standard series for IEC 61869 instrument transformers, the specifications from the previous standards IEC 60044-1:2003 (current transformers) and IEC 60044-6:1992 (protective current transformers for transient performance) have been combined in a new standard IEC 61869-2 (Additional requirements for current transformers). Since the publication of IEC 60044-6, the field of application for this type of current transformers has become far more comprehensive. As a result the theoretic background for the design of the current transformers in accordance with the electric requirements has become more complex. In order to design the new standard IEC 61869-2 more user-friendly, the extensive annexes of IEC 60044-6 have been considerably reduced. The information in the annexes will be summarized at a later time in a Technical Report which is currently under discussion at the IEC. DIN EN 61869-2 (VDE 0414-9-2) is based on DIN EN 61869-1 (VDE 0414-9-1) and shall be applied in conjunction with this standard. DIN EN 61869-2 (VDE 0414-9-2) is applicable to newly manufactured inductive current transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices having rated frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. Although these requirements basically refer to current transformers with separate coils they also apply, if applicable, to current transformers in stand-by mode. Current transformer intended for measurement and protective purposes shall comply with all clauses of this standard. DIN EN 61869-2 (VDE 0414-9-2) contains in addition to DIN EN 61869-1 (VDE 0414-9-1) requirements and tests for inductive current transformers for application with electrical protective systems the main requirement of which represents the maintenance of specified transfer characteristics up to a multitude of the design current if the current contains an exponential decreasing DC component with specified time constant. The responsible committee is DKE/K 471 "Messwandler" ("Instrument transformers") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
