DIN ISO 29842
Sensory analysis - Methodology - Balanced incomplete block designs (ISO 29842:2011)
Sensorische Analyse - Prüfverfahren - Balancierte unvollständige Blockpläne (ISO 29842:2011)
Overview
The standard includes the unmodified International Standard ISO 29842:2011, which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 34 "Food products" (secretariat: AFNOR, France), Subcommittee SC 12 "Sensory analysis" (secretariat: IRAM, Argentina). Due to the resolution of Working Committee NA 057-01-01 AA "Sensorik" ("Sensory analysis") the International Standard has been adopted without any modifications into the German body of standards. The collaboration of DIN for the field of responsibility of ISO/TC 34/SC 12 is performed through Working Committee NA 057-01-01 AA "Sensorik" ("Sensory analysis") of NAL. The document includes specifications for the application of balanced incomplete block designs to sensory descriptive and hedonic tests and specifies guidelines for their application in sensory evaluation. These block designs are used when the number of test samples exceeds the number of evaluations that an assessor can perform reliably in a single session. The document also includes the fundamental characteristics of balanced incomplete block designs as well as requirements for data analysis in the form of analysis of variance and Friedman's sum rank analysis for rank data. The informative annexes include the catalogue of incomplete block designs (Annex A), an example of balanced incomplete block design with ratings data (Annex B) and an example of balanced incomplete block design with rank data (Annex C).
