Overview

This International Standard describes a shear test method used to determine the adhesive bond strength between direct dental restorative materials and tooth structure, for example dentine or enamel. The method as described is principally intended for dental adhesives. With appropriate modification, it may be possible to use this method for adhesive restorative materials (for example glass-ionomer materials). The method includes substrate selection, storage and handling of tooth structure, as well as the procedure for testing. Testing adhesion to tooth structure is technique sensitive and experience with the test method is required. The International Standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 1/WG 11 "Adhesion test methods" (secretariat: ANSI, USA), in collaboration with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). At DIN the responsible Working Committee is NA 014-00-01 AA "Füllungswerkstoffe" ("Filling materials") of NADENT.
