DIN EN 14143
Respiratory equipment - Self-contained re-breathing diving apparatus; German version EN 14143:2013
Atemgeräte - Autonome Regenerationstauchgeräte; Deutsche Fassung EN 14143:2013
Overview
DIN EN 14143:2013 specifies minimum requirements for self-contained re-breathing diving apparatus to ensure a minimum level of safe operation of the apparatus up to a maximum depth of 100 m, depending on the gas mixture used, such as pure oxygen, oxygen and nitrogen, oxygen and helium or oxygen and nitrogen and helium. It includes methods of testing the individual assemblies and components, such as diving regulators, safety devices, facepieces, as well as practical performance tests to establish compliance with the requirements (representing concretizations of the essential requirements of PPE Directive 89/686/EEC) stated in the document. The requirements in this European Standard are intended to take account for the interaction of wearer and device and - where possible - the environment in which the device is being used. In comparison with DIN EN 14143:2003, the range of water temperatures, if specified by the manufacturer, has been extended to water temperatures less than 4 °C and above 34 °C. Furthermore, risk criteria, an automatic volume addition system, additional requirements for a manual gas control or supply system for the inspired partial pressure of oxygen, pass/fail criteria and a normative Annex on safety-critical software have been added. This standard is a test standard and is directed at manufacturers and test laboratories. The responsible committee is NA 027-02-08 AA "Tauchgeräte" ("Diving apparatus") at the Precision Mechanics and Optics Standards Committee (NAFuO) at DIN.
