DIN EN 3 Beiblatt 4
Portable fire extinguishers; Supplement 4: Marking for use in areas with high static magnetic fields
Tragbare Feuerlöscher; Beiblatt 4: Kennzeichnung für den Einsatz in Bereichen mit hohen statischen Magnetfeldern
Overview
This supplement has been prepared by Section Committee NA 031-01 "Handbetätigte Geräte für die Brandbekämpfung - SpA zu CEN/TC 70") ("Manual Means of Firefighting - mirror committee of CEN/TC 70") at the Firefighting and Fire Protection Standards Committee (FNFW) and supplements the European unified standard for portable fire extinguishers, DIN EN 3-7. When fire extinguishers are used in areas with high static magnetic fields (see BGR B 11:2006-01, 3.12.2) there exists the danger that the fire extinguisher is attracted due to the strong magnetic field and as a result becomes a dangerous weapon. For fire extinguishers used in areas with strong magnetic fields uniform marking is therefore necessary. The intention is to prevent accidents by the impact of these magnetic fields on fire extinguishers and their components. High static magnetic fields are those where the values exceed the permissible values of exposure range 1 (see BGR B 11:2006-01, attachment 1). Equipment with high static magnetic fields can be, for example, magnetic resonance scanners (MRS), spectroscopy equipment, accelerators, galvanic equipment and electrolysis systems. This supplement gives recommendations with regard to suitability or marking for portable fire extinguishers intended for use in areas with high static magnetic fields. Therefore this supplement serves for the interpretation of DIN EN 3-7:2007-10, clause 16 "Portable fire extinguisher identification". It contains no additionally standardized specifications to DIN EN 3-7, even if the use of the compulsory verb form "shall" may indicate this, as these wordings result from the cited sets of rules. For Germany the specifications of this supplement are recommended for application. Later adoption into DIN EN 3-7 is aimed at by the publication and application of this supplement and is already planned.
