Overview
The standard specifies conditions for carrying out torque/clamp force tests on threaded fasteners and related parts. The tests are basically applicable to bolts, screws, studs and nuts made of carbon steel and alloy steel, whose mechanical properties are described in DIN EN ISO 898-1 or DIN EN ISO 898-2, having metric threads with thread sizes M3 to M39. The standard is also applicable to combinations of other externally and internally threaded fasteners, but is not applicable to set screws and similar components that are not under tensile stresses, nor to screws which form their own mating thread. The method described in the standard facilitates determination of the tightening characteristics of threaded fasteners and related parts. The underlying International Standard ISO 16047 has been prepared by ISO/TC 2 "Fasteners", Subcommittee ISO/TC 2/SC 12 "Fasteners with metric internal thread" in collaboration with CEN/TC 185 "Fasteners" (all three secretariats: DIN, Germany). The committee responsible for this standard is NA 067-00-03 AA "Verbindungselemente mit metrischem Innengewinde" ("Fasteners with metric internal thread") at DIN e. V.
