Chemical analysis of ferrous materials - Determination of manganese in steels and irons - Electrometric titration method; German version EN 10071:2012

Title (German)

Chemische Analyse von Eisenwerkstoffen - Bestimmung von Mangan in Stahl und Eisen - Elektrometrisches Titrierverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 10071:2012

Overview

This European Standard describes an electrometric titration method for the determination of manganese in steel and iron. The method is applicable to unalloyed, low alloy or alloyed steels and to iron materials with a manganese content greater than or equal to 0,5 % (m/m). The principle is as follows: The test portion is dissolved with an appropriate acid mixture and the excess acid is largely neutralised with sodium hydrogen carbonate. Interfering cations were precipitated with zinc oxide. Titration of Mn (II) takes place with a potassium permanganate solution, in a sodium pyrophosphoric medium at a pH of about 6,5. The end point of this redox reaction (oxidation of Mn (II) to Mn (III)) is determined by an electrometric measurement. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 021-00-30 AA "Analysenverfahren" ("Methods of chemical analysis") at DIN.
