Motorradfahrer-Schutzkleidung gegen mechanische Belastung - Teil 1: Gelenkprotektoren für Motorradfahrer - Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 1621-1:2012
Overview
This European Standard specifies requirements for limb joint impact protectors for motorcycle incorporated or intended to be incorporated into motorcycle riders' clothing or used as separate items. Along with product requirements, such as equipment marking and information supplied by the manufacturer, test requirements related to safety and ergonomics are specified. The corresponding test methods are described and performance levels are defined. As a result, a consistent safety level shall be specified. Potential users of this standard are testing institutes, certification bodies and manufacturers. Limb joint impact protectors corresponding with the requirements of this standard provide a certain protection against injuries that could result from an impact on road surfaces during motorcycle accidents. They can also slightly mitigate injuries sustained by impact with other objects, for instance, other vehicles. This European Standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association to provide a means of conforming to Essential Requirements of the New Approach Directive 89/686/EEC. This European Standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 162 "Protective clothing including hand and arm protection and lifejackets". The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 075-05-09 AA "Motorradfahrerschutzkleidung" ("Motorcycle rider protective clothing") at the Personal Protective Equipment Standards Committee (NPS).
