Overview

The standard specifies the main dimensions, tolerances and characteristics of punches and dies for all kinds of tablets.
The standard also contains terms regarding punches, dies and the land of the tablets. For the upper and lower punches, each with and without key, as well as the associated dies, all relevant dimensions, tolerances and surface roughness values relevant for the interchangeability of the press punches between the different tableting machines of various manufacturers. Clause 4.3 of the standard includes statements on the positioning of punch with key in relation to machine turret and tablet shape to be executed. Furthermore, the standard contains the clauses designation, marking and material.
Annex A (normative) contains illustrations on details of the punch head. The International Standard ISO 18084:2011 has been prepared by ISO/TC 29/SC 8 "Tools for pressing and moulding" (secretariat: AFNOR, France) with the collaboration of German experts of Working Committee NA 121-03-04 AA "Tablettenstempel" ("Press tools for pharmaceutical tablets").
The International Standard has been adapted without any modifications as DIN ISO 18084:2012.
