DIN EN 1870-8
Safety of woodworking machines - Circular sawing machines - Part 8: Single blade edging circular rip sawing machines with power driven saw unit and manual loading and/or unloading; German version EN 1870-8:2012
Sicherheit von Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen - Kreissägemaschinen - Teil 8: Einblattbesäum- und Leistenkreissägemaschinen mit kraftbetätigtem Sägeaggregat und Handbeschickung und/oder Handentnahme; Deutsche Fassung EN 1870-8:2012
Overview
This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC which apply to machines that are first placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market, in order to facilitate proof of compliance with the essential requirements of these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a harmonized standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (presumption of conformity). This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in clause 4 which are relevant to single blade edging circular rip sawing machines with power driven saw unit and manual loading and/or unloading, hereinafter referred to as "machines", designed to cut solid wood, chipboard, fibreboard and plywood when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. This document applies to machines where the workpiece is stationary, the vertical and horizontal movements of the saw unit are power driven, and where the machine is provided with workpiece clamping. The workpiece may or may not be clamped during cutting. This European Standard does not apply to machines: a) where the workpiece is fed to the saw blade during cutting; b) designed for cutting veneers; c) provided with a device situated behind the line of cut, which moves in a direction parallel to the line of cut, for automatically unloading the workpiece during the return of the saw unit to the rest position. This document is not applicable to machines manufactured before its date of publication as EN. This standard contains the German version of EN 1870-8:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 1870-8:2010-05 as follows: a) clause 2, Normative references, has been updated; b) in 5.2, Controls, the design requirements for control circuits in certain categories have been replaced by specifications for performance levels and the requirements have been deleted; c) 5.2.1.2, Use of protective devices, has been added; d) 5.2.3, Starting, 5.2.4, Normal stopping, and 5.2.5, Emergency stop, have been completely revised; e) in 5.2.8, Speed control, further requirements have been included for the control system; f) in 5.2.11, Powered movement of the saw blade and/or fences, has been completely revised; g) normative Annex G, Impact test method for guards, has been added including tests on guards' materials, unless they are in accordance with 5.3.2, Risk of break-up during operation; h) 5.3.3.4, Spindle locking, has been added; i) 5.3.4, Braking, has been completely revised and braking tests have been moved to normative Annex F; j) 5.3.4.2, Brake release, has been added; k) 5.3.7, Prevention of access to moving parts, has been revised; l) 5.4.3, Emission of chips and dust, has been revised to include further requirements; m) informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 98/37/EC has been deleted and the former Annex ZB is now Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC. During the preparation the national interests were represented by Working Committee NA 060-06-01 AA "Sicherheit" ("Safety") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) of DIN. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-06-01 AA "Sicherheit" ("Safety") of Technical Section "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen" ("Woodworking machines") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of single blade edging circular rip sawing machines with power driven saw unit and manual loading and/or unloading, and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
