Railway applications - Track - Performance requirements for fastening systems - Part 1: Definitions; German version EN 13481-1:2012

Title (German)

Bahnanwendungen - Oberbau - Leistungsanforderungen für Schienenbefestigungssysteme - Teil 1: Definitionen; Deutsche Fassung EN 13481-1:2012

Overview

The European Standard series EN 13481 "Railway applications - Track - Performance requirements for fastening systems" consists of the following parts: - Part 1: Definitions - Part 2: Fastening systems for concrete sleepers - Part 3: Fastening systems for wood sleepers - Part 4: Fastening systems for steel sleepers - Part 5: Fastening systems for slab track with rail on the surface or rail embedded in a channel - Part 7: Special fastening systems for switches and crossings and check rails Part 6 does not exist in this series. These documents have been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 256 "Railway applications", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The responsible German committee is NA 087-00-01-04 UA "Schienenbefestigungssysteme" ("Fastening systems") of the Railway Standardisation Committee (FSF). These standards support the requirements of the EN 13146 standard series "Railway applications - Track - Test methods for fastening systems". One requirement for fastening assemblies is to ensure longitudinal rail restraint which prevents slipping of the tracks and which prevents, as far as possible, the pulling apart of the tracks in case of rail fractions. Measurements of torsional resistance are made to assess the risk of distortion of the track. Requirements for the attenuation characteristics of fastening assemblies can be necessary to protect the sleepers from impacts cause by vehicles. The laboratory test "Effect of repeated loading" is carried out to assess potential long term performance of the fastening in track. The test for determination of the clamping force is only suitable for laboratory use. These European Standards apply for fastening systems, in categories A to E on wood, concrete and steel bearers, in ballasted track and on slab track and which have maximum axle loads and minimum curve radii in divergent track. The requirements apply for: - fastening systems which act on the foot and/or web of the rail, including direct fastening systems and systems; - fastening systems for rail sections in accordance with EN 13674-1 and EN 13674-4. These standards are not applicable for fastening systems for other rail sections, rigid fastening systems or special fastening systems for rail joints. These standards are for type approval of a complete fastening assembly only.
