Engineers' cold chisels and allied tools - Technical specifications

Title (German)

Schlagwerkzeuge - Technische Lieferbedingungen

Overview

Technical specifications for the manufacture and applicability of engineers' cold chisels and allied tools made of steel, such as chisels, centre punches and pin punches, are specified in this standard, including specifications which are also applicable for those tools that do not fall under one of the existing product standards, for instance, due to their dimensions or design. This standard is not applicable to hammers or blacksmiths' chisels. With these technical specifications it shall be ensured that engineers' cold chisels and allied tools do not present a hazard to the user. For this purpose, it is assumed that shock impacts, meaning impacts on hardened components, are strictly avoided. In detail, safety requirements for the materials to be used and their hardness, as well as for the design of the tools are specified. For this purpose, tests on conformance to each of these requirements are included. Moreover, this standard contains requirements on the corrosion protection and marking of the products. This German standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 121-05-12 AA "Schlagwerkzeuge" ("Impact tools") of FWS.
